Lion

Lioness

Big Cats

The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the big cats in the genus Panthera and a member of the family Felidae.

Lion Info

Some males exceed 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, making lions the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
In the wilderness, males seldom live longer than 10 to 14 years, as injuries sustained from continual fighting with rival males greatly reduce their longevity.

The mane of the adult male lion, unique among cats, is one of the most distinctive characteristics of the species.
